Association Internationale de Droit Pénal

Professor Bassiouni served as Secretary General of the IAPL from 1974-1989 and as President for three five-year terms from 1989-2004, when he was elected Honorary President.

The International Association of Penal Law, or L’Association Internationale de Droit Pénal (IAPL/AIDP) was founded in Paris on 14 March 1924. The Association is the successor organisation to the International Union of Penal Law (IUPL/UIDP), which had been founded in 1889 in Vienna by three eminent penalists: Franz Von Liszt, Gérard Van Hamel, and Adolphe Prins.
